Frequently Asked Questions
Is investing with a collateral lender for me?
Investing with a collateral lender is for any seeking to yield a passive source of income. No matter where you live on the globe you can lend out your capital and make a monthly interest return. Collateralized Lending helps you combat inflation and earn interest on your money every month as opposed to letting your money sit in a bank account and not working for you.
Do I need any licensing to invest in collateral lending?
No. Because you are not the first party entity that will be loaning your capital out to individuals, you do not need a license. The lender in which you will be loaning your capital to however, does have to be licensed.
Do I have to be an accredited investor to invest my capital?
You do not have to be an accredited investor to loan your capital out to a licensed collateral lender.
Is Collateral Lending safe?
With any investment there are potential risks, however all collateral is stored in our own or our lending partner’s stores and/or warehouses. With the possession of the borrower's collateral, risks are minimized through these secured notes.
Is there a start up fee?
Yes, there is a one time start up fee of $2,000. This fee goes towards the opening and maintenance of your account between the borrower and lender transactions.
How much do I need to start lending?
To start investing with a licensed collateral lender you will need a minimum investment of $5,000.
Can I access my money at any time?
All investment capital has a lock up period of 3 months minimum. This is because your capital is out on the open market being borrowed and working for you. After the initial 3 month contract, you’ll have the option to extend your contract for another 3 to 24 months.
What happens if I need my initial investment before the 3 month lock up period is over?
If your initial investment is needed while you are in a lock up period you will face an early release penalty of 15% on the total amount of the investment.
Can I pull out the interest made every month?
Yes, you can
Do I have to pull out the interest being made?
No you do not, you can compound your interest. The decision to pull out your interest or compound interest is determined at the beginning of the contract period and will remain the same each month until the end of the contract.
What is compounding?
Compound interest is the addition of interest to the principal sum of a loan or deposit, or in other words, interest on principal plus interest. It is the result of reinvesting interest, or adding it to the loaned capital rather than paying it out, or requiring payment from the borrower, so that interest in the next period is then earned on the principal sum plus previously accumulated interest.
Can I add more capital to my active account and when?
Yes, you may add more capital to your account at any time. We recommend having all added funds in before the end of the month so that by the 1st of the next month, you will have a full 30 day lending cycle.
What happens if the borrower defaults on their loan, can I get my investment back?
If a borrower defaults on their loan, the asset they have held in the lender’s possession, will be sold to recoup the principal, plus interest from the borrower. Your capital will go into a liquidity pool, meaning you will never have to wait on collateral to be sold to receive your monthly returns.
What determines the monthly percentage rate, as there can be a fluctuation between 3-5% in any given month?
Rates are based on assets in inventory, but there are two primary factors.
If a borrower pays off a large asset item in full and we release the asset back to them there will be no interest collected the following month on that item. When that asset is no longer in inventory, there will be no interest collected on it the following month, potentially resulting in a decrease within the liquidity pool.
If a borrower defaults there will be no interest collected on that item until it is liquidated and/or sold on the open market by our own or our partner’s sales team. This could potentially result in a decrease within the pool. However, once the asset is liquidated or sold, the percentage in which would have been generated during the time period of the agreement, will be returned to the liquidity pool, causing the percentage rate to increase the following month.
